How do I Hygge?

Hello my babytiful friends!

I'm sure you have heard the word "hygge". Hygge is one of those words that has no easy translation. It's a state. A way of living and enjoying the present. Of comfort, of warmth, of company. The way in which the Danes define happiness.

hygge quote

It simply requires being present and recognising a moment that feels so sweet, cosy, charming, special or nice that you just have to name the moment. You can’t buy hygge.

The little book of Hygge, Meik Wiking

Danes created hygge because they were trying to survive boredom, cold, dark and sameness and the undefinable feeling of Hygge was a way for them to find moments to celebrate or acknowledge and to break up the day, months or years. With so many cold, dark, days, the simple act of a candle glowing with a cup of coffee in the morning or a home cooked evening meal with friends can make a huge difference to one’s spirit.

We are clear that you are happier when you consume less and you choose better. Vivienne Westwood put it this way: "Buy less. Choose better. Make it last" And that life are little moments. Enjoy these tips to be happier in your day to day life.

Recently I got a copy of the book "The little book of Hygge" The danish way to live well.

The author is Meik Wiking from The Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, whose job it is to research what makes people happy. I have to say that I actually love it and I recommend you to get yours! One thing in the book caught my attention because it's something I have often thought about is that the author refers to a survey that shows gratitude having an impact on happiness. The results show that being grateful not only increases happiness, but also makes us more helpful, more forgiving, and less materialistic.

Wiking thoroughly explains the idea of hygge and how the Danes, the happiest nation according to studies, know the art of creating an intimate atmosphere. He uses researches and charts to support his case, but the book never feels academic.

Also, have you seen our new collection on the web? It's so beautiful and we included amazing gift sets! We have one named hygge !
