I believe we all agree that time flies, and although nine months seems like very long time, it is just the right time you need to adapt to the most wonderful period in your life.

But to be honest with you, pregnancy is full of ups and downs, and I'm not just talking about the weight we gain and lose :-) it's more a hormonal issue. It seems that those ups and downs of hormones are a test for couples ... LOL!!!

Some days you are the happiest person on Earth and the next day you are full of insecurities and fears. It is totally normal. You are going to bring a human being into this world, with all the responsibilities that that entails, and your head is filled with different questions and doubts….will I be a good mother? What do I have to do to be healthy and give my baby the best? Will everything go well? What will the birth be like?

Some of them are difficult or impossible to answer since each woman and each pregnancy is different and there are many things that still escape our hands.

But today I would like to tell you how my nine months of pregnancy went and how I experienced each of the stages. I hope you like it! (It is just my personal opinion based on my own experience).

Primer trimester

At the beginning of January 2016 I found out that I was pregnant. It was a very special moment but also a bit scary to be honest!! The only question we had in mind was…. ‘and now, what?!’

The only thing I was sure about is that this baby arrived at the right time, so we couldn’t be happier!

The first month I noticed a lot of tiredness and sleepiness….I was even falling asleep in the car!! Very unusual on me LOL!! Luckily I didn’t develop an aversion to certain odors, or either I had any sickness morning or dizziness, but I was feeling soooo hungry at all times!

The first ultrasound was very exciting. It is when the gynecologist truly confirmed that you are pregnant and we had a mix of feelings, especially she said to us that she could see 2 sacs! At the end that was only the rare shape of it…

You only see a little dark bean on a black&white screen but you know that in a few months it will become a precious baby. I was fortunate to be able to live all those moments with my husband, as he accompanied me to all the tests I had and lived each visit to the doctor with the same illusion.

Around the 12 weeks of gestation is when we gave the news to everyone as we wanted to wait for the first three months which are the most delicate, and see that everything was fine.

Second trimester

For me it has been one of the most beautiful period of the pregnancy. It is usually the most pleasurable stage of the pregnancy since most of the symptoms go away and you feel full of energy. At this stage I kept doing a lot of exercise, like walking every day, and Yoga and Pilates every week (adapted those to pregnancy).

Also since the beginning of the pregnancy, I took good care of my skin with creams and body oils, to keep the skin moisturized and avoid the stretch marks as I could. The bump was growing so fast that at first it is difficult to recognize yourself in the mirror hahaha but gradually you get used to it. I had to buy some maternity clothes as trousers and some tshirts…

What I really liked is that you have a very special light on your eyes and your skin glows on its own! People tend to be more kind to you and you cannot stop smiling at anything.

Ready for Yoga and Pilates

Third trimester

In these months I organized everything that until now it was just ideas in my head. The decor and preparation of everything needed to welcome the little baby took up a lot of time….and still there are few things to do!. Although during my pregnancy I didn’t stop working, I took extra time in the evenings to buy the baby wardrobe, the cot, prepare the tiny clothes (they are so cute!) and accessories, and do a prenatal course and many more things.

The energy gradually faded away and by the time I was eight months old I noticed that everything cost me twice. It was not so easy to climb the stairs and put on some stockings, it was an odyssey!! I kept my Yoga and Pilates classes every week until a couple of weeks before the expected delivery date but I was getting more tired.

Towards the end of this final stage the visits to the doctor are more often, almost weekly; which I really appreciated as I had the reassurance in each visit and also I had a scan done, so we knew that everything was going well!

On my 38th visit to the hospital, the doctor said I had to be induced as the baby seems to be under weight, so they scheduled the induction for that Sunday…. the moment was approaching and I was feeling super nervous!!

Alma finally arrived on the 28th August at 17:44h in the afternoon. Now my whole world revolves around her and I am amazed by the feelings that are growing day by day and that until that moment you are not able to imagine.

Sometimes I look myself in the mirror and I miss my bump! it was a very round, firm and soft belly and in the end I ended up getting fond of her. The one that has been left to me after the delivery is not so pretty but it means that I grow a little soul inside me…that is the power of the women!!
